Kuwait national football team

The origin of football in Kuwait may be traced back to 1932, when Kuwaiti merchants moving between India and Kuwait were acquainted with the game, which arrived in India quite early through England. Kuwait Football Association was founded in 1952 and joined the International Football Association in 1962, the same year it joined the Asian Federation. In 1969, the federation hired Austrian coach Edmond, who developed a formidable squad that won the inaugural Gulf Cup. Kuwait football’s greatest success dates back to 1982, when it reached the World Cup final in Spain. FIFA decided to suspend the Kuwait Federation’s activity on ground of administrative issues at the end of 2008.
